Most cysts are diagnosed simply by their appearance and location. Dr. Mohan Krishna may shine a light through the lump (transillumination) or use an X-ray to ensure your bones and joints are healthy. 
1. Observation (Watchful Waiting) 
If the cyst is not painful and doesn’t interfere with movement, we may simply monitor it. Many cysts disappear on their own without any treatment.
2. Immobilization 
Activity often makes the cyst grow. Wearing a wrist brace or splint can help the cyst shrink by keeping the joint still.
3. Aspiration (Draining the Cyst) 
If the cyst is painful or limits activity, Dr. Mohan Krishna can drain the fluid using a needle. This is a quick office procedure. Note: While effective, the cyst may return because the “root” or stalk of the cyst is still there.
4. Surgery (Excision) 
If non-surgical options fail or the cyst returns, surgery may be recommended. During this procedure, we remove the cyst along with part of the involved joint capsule or tendon sheath (the “root”). This is the most effective way to prevent the cyst from coming back.
